Since 1981, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) has been a time to highlight the needs and resources dedicated to individuals, families, friends, and communities impacted by victimization. For the last 40 years, communities nationwide celebrate the dedicated work of individuals who have work vehemently to establish victim rights and worked hard to ensure all victims have access to services and the ability to exercise their rights as they heal from the harm caused by a crime. The Nebraska Coalition for Victims of Crime embrace this tradition by celebrating and promoting victims' rights and while honoring and advocating on behalf of crime victims.
The 2021 NCVRW theme is "Support Victims. Build Trust. Engage Communities". Throughout the week we want to highlight the commitment to serving all crime victims and acknowledge the achievements in victims services and allied professions.
One way you can celebrate is by registering for the NCVC's Crime Victims' Rights Conference, April 27-28. The conference will feature former US Secret Service Agent, Author, Speaker, and Self-Esteem Mentor, Dr. Mary Beth Janke. Dr. Janke's training in Clinical Psychology paired with her rich professional background and training has shaped her unique perspective on how to be a "protector". Her talk on Stalking Trauma Syndrome will expand your understanding of trauma in a new way.
Other speakers include Assistant US Attorney Lesley Woods who will speak on Cyberstalking and human trafficking expert, Julie Shrader, who will speak about Rejuvenating Women and the Restored Wings Program. The conference will also feature a Victim Empowerment Panel, which will feature crime victims from across the state of Nebraska who were able to use Restorative Justice to heal and recover from the harm they experienced. You will not want to miss this conference.
